Now let’s face it, we all have certain things in our lives guaranteed to give us that sinking feeling.
Whether it’s the imminent arrival of your in-laws for a long weekend, the ever increasing and over reaching demands of a work colleague, or that big presentation you’ve been asked to deliver to the most important audience of your career so far.
Is that sinking feeling familiar?
That small but significant loss of control where our emotional state starts to suffer?
Are you someone who tends to create blockages rather than solutions?
If you are, there are several simple steps you can take to move to a powerful, positive place.
The first is to recognise that you have a choice, even in the most difficult situation.
This choice is to ALWAYS choose your attitude!
So, if you are ever guilty of putting the negatives before the positives, here’s a small technique to try out over the next few days.
In your mind, create your own hot air balloon.
hot air balloon 1
It can be any shape or colour, the brighter the better.
Now, jump into the basket below your balloon and untie the ropes that are tied to the floor. See yourself floating just above the ground.
All around the edge of your wicker basket there are bags that would normally hold the ballast that stops the balloon from rising.
Recognise and visualise the negative thoughts that are holding you back and then place one in each of these bags.
These could be things like: feeling down about the pile of work waiting for you Monday morning, thinking that others are ‘better’ than you, a confidence dip in certain situations or a lack of focus and direction, all the things that could hold you back.
When you’ve ‘loaded’ your ballast, choose to throw one overboard each day for the next week.
As each one goes, replace it with a positive thought and action. Mondays mornings can be exciting – new things may happen, others will only be ‘better’ than us if we let them, the more we work on growing our confidence, the more focus we get in our lives.
Its a deceptively simple idea …but it really works
Try it out and let me know how you get on.
And one more thing – the great thing with offloading any ballast means ……
…..the only way you can go then is UP!
